1/30/2024 0 Comments Jbl charge 5 release date![]() There’s room for built-in microphones to take phone calls from your phone and touch controls here too, where you can tap, double or triple tap and hold to play and pause audio, skip back and forward tracks, summon your smart assistant and answer or reject calls. So you could technically take them swimming, but streaming audio over Bluetooth and water don’t exactly mix, so think of this durability being more useful if you need to give them wash after a sweaty workout or you get caught in heavy rain. JBL has slapped an IP68 water and dust resistant rating, which means they’re safe to be submerged in water up to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes. What you do get though are earbuds with impressive rugged credentials. These aren’t ugly earbuds but they’re not exactly sleek either. JBL offers the Peak 3 in four different colours, but if having something stylish-looking in your ears is a priority you’re better off elsewhere. They clamp onto the ears through JBL’s TwistLock ear hook that hasn’t budged in my gym sessions, outdoor runs and home workouts, or have ever felt like they’re going to slip and slide around. Like the Endurance Peak 2, JBL sticks with a similar ear hook design that are by no means small or disappear when worn, but do stay put. That puts it cheaper than the Powerbeats Pro (£269.95 / $249 / AUD$349), but comes in more expensive than the Skullcandy Push Active (£59 / $79 / AUD$179.95). Pricing & Availability: The JBL Flip 6 is on sale now in Europe and goes on sale in US on December 6. It’s the ideal Christmas present that will also get the festivities off to a rocking good start. What else can I say? If you want a great Bluetooth speaker that has the power to party and can go anywhere, then the JBL Flip 6 is the one for you. As I said, the sound is an improvement over the JBL Flip 5 but the great features from that speaker have been retained. Pump the sound up a bit more and you may experience a little less, but JBL is very good at power management. The battery life is brilliant, plus you can expect a solid 12 hours of playtime at average volumes. Verdict: The JBL Flip 6 is a cracking little wireless Bluetooth speaker with a surprisingly loud voice and a well-focused sound, largely thanks to the addition of a tweeter. So, whatever you fancy there’s bound to be a color you like. This season JBL is offering a choice of Dusty Pink, River Teal, Grey Stone, Ocean Blue, Midnight Black, Fiesta Red, Steel White, Forest Green and camouflage-style Squad. No JBL upgrade would be complete without a refresh of the available colorways. This means it can now resist a proper dunking in a swimming pool for up to 30 minutes and, should you take it onto the beach, you’ll be glad to know it’s completely dustproof. Where the JBL Flip 5 was IP7, the Flip 6 is now rated IPX67. The JBL Flip 6 now has an upgraded water and dust rating. Fiesta Red, Steel White or camouflage-style Squad, there's sure to be a JBL Flip 6 that suits you. Whether you want it in Forest Green, Dusty Pink, River Teal, Grey Stone, Ocean Blue, Midnight Black. It can even be used to set a couple of the speakers for a mini home cinema sound system. There’s also a JBL PartyBoost button that can link the Flip 6 to other compatible JBL speakers with PartyBoost to create more noise, more stereo and more fun. Running along the top of the speaker’s tubular form are switches for adjusting the volume levels, pausing, playing and skipping or repeating tracks. Recharging is via a USB-C port at the back of the speaker and the battery capacity is shown by a white LED strip next to the charging port while there’s also a power switch and a Bluetooth pairing button next to the LED. I mentioned at the beginning that the Flip 6 was a party animal and that is borne out by the fact the Flip 6 can play for up to 12 hours between charges. They are as reliable as anything I’ve ever used and the upgrade to the latest Bluetooth is good news. I’ve never come across a JBL Flip that didn’t automatically connect to a smartphone. The Bluetooth circuitry inside the JBL Flip 6 has been upgraded to version 5.1, giving it more range and robust reception. ![]() I think JBL has managed to nail the sound with dual passive radiators underpinning a solid soundstage that works well with any genre of music. The Flip range of speakers has always been great sounding, but the tweeter focuses the music and now brings it into sharper focus which removes the last vestiges of midrange muffle. However, JBL has added a tweeter for the first time which brings a whole new dynamic to the sound. Inside there’s the same racetrack subwoofer that the Flip 5 has.
